I've been off line over the weekend while involved in another activity in Victoria. However, I did get a chance to spend some time in the BC Archives while I was there and discovered a few interesting historical notes from 15th Brigade Canadian Field Artillery. I have a partial copy of Lt Col Beeston's submission to the Defence Quarterly Magazine which outlines the early history of the unit. I'll post each section as I manage to find time to transcribe them. The first section is now on-line in the 1919 yearbook. I also found the nominal roll for the 15th Brigade Canadian Field Artillery as it set sail on the S.S. Cameronia on 13th Sept 1916. I've added the following names into the nominal roll: Lieutenant Colonel Ogilvie, Alexander Thomas Captain Brows, Herbert Austin Captain Fowler, Jordan Mott Captain Gillespie, Hebden John Captain Latimer, Herbert James IF we had perpetuated the 15th Brigade from the First World War we could have claimed Lieutenant-Colonel Ogilvie as being our first Commanding Officer. I've also added the following more recent members onto our nominal roll:
Ployart, Chris W; Davis, Toni; Tymo, Darlene, M; Franner, Linda A C'mon down to Bessborough Armoury this Saturday at 1300 hours for the continuation of our training on the 25 Pounder Gun Drill.
Why doesn't the drill in the field ever resemble the drill back at the training establishment? Who is that dashing young man? Time to go back to what seems like just a short time ago to some of us.....however, reality says it was 40 years ago and a lot of us look really young! Go to the 1975 yearbook page and help me with some of the names I'm missing.
The following names have been collected from Peter Moogk's book, Vancouver Defended, and added to the nominal roll. Adams, Fred; Bombardier in 1st Searchlight Regiment RCA in 1939. Bricker, JH; Major in 15th (Vancouver) Coast Regiment RCA in 1942. Cartwright, MOF; Captain in 58th Battery in 1944. Chester, George; Member of 1st Searchlight regiment RCA in 1939. Of course, there are missing photos (most of the names of the people in the group photos at the top of each page are not known at this time), some names may have been missed and some of the information may be erroneous. That's where you come in! Have you got a better photo? Have you got some of the missing info? Send it to president.vcrgunners@gmail.com My next goal is to find the names from our days as a Coast Regiment in World War 2. |
