I recently toured the Fortress Hohensalzburg in Salzburg, Austria and thought I would share a few ideas that could be used in our own museum.
The Owl Cannon from 1565 is displayed in its original finishes (rather more colourful than our guns - also rather older) with short descriptive text.

Knight Yourself - A computerized generated screen allows you to choose various bits of armour to create a personalized outfit. The final touch is the camera that records your face. You then have 30 seconds to take a photo on your phone and share with your friends - The Fortress's name and logo is displayed on all the photos - free advertising!
Could we do this with all our uniforms from the past? Wonder how much the system costs? Looks rather expensive! However, google searching does lead one to the term "selfie station" or "Visual Try On Screen". |
K.U.K. Artillerie in Salzburg - The Fortress was the past home of a local unit. There were some great displays but they also had a huge fortress to work with.
