Regimental Sword - Lieutenant-Colonel Sidney (Sid) Victor Lloyd CD
Lieutenant-Colonel Lloyd was born in Vancouver, B.C. on 29 April 1922. He enlisted in 1939 and posted to 26th Field Battery, 4th Field Regiment, RCA, CASF and later transferred to No. 2 Forward Observation Unit, Royal Artillery (Airborne). He was in Training Command in 1965, the Base Administration Officer for CFB Comox in 1970 and remained in the military until 1973. He then started as an administrator with G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Center. He was also a Board Member for the Cheshire Homes Society for Brain Injuries. LCol Lloyd passed away 5 December 2004 at the age of 82.
The sword is an Artillery Officers' Sword serial #72872 which is based on the 1822 Light Cavalry pattern. This sword features a slightly curved and spear-pointed carbon steel blade. The hilt is a half-basket in nickel-plated steel with three fluted bars and a grip in black fish-skin bound with silver-plated copper wire. The pommel is a stepped design.
