Museum Upgrade - Vehicle Shelters
Ian Newby has been kind enough to allow us the use of some of his property in Aldergrove to store some of our larger artefacts. After some work hacking away some blackberry bushes and levelling off the ground somewhat in the summer 2024, we laid down some landscape fabric and 12 tons of crushed gravel. Unfortunately, the gravel truck driver was not able to spread the load very far so we had to shovel it from the two large piles. Final product looks good! Thanks Ian for the space! The museum stores some of our artefacts at the Western Museum of the Armed Forces in Aldergrove which is managed by Ian Newby. Our recent grant has allowed us to purchase 3 vehicle shelters and the first one was assembled on 9 May 2026 by Darren Kostinuk, Doug Butler and Leon Jensen. I would have included a picture of the three of us in front of the structure but apparently my camera skills were deficient.
On Sunday 10 May 2026 the second vehicle shelter was 2/3 assembled. Not bad for one person! I can complete the assembly of the roof by myself but the next step, lifting it and placing the posts takes 3-4 people. Anybody available?
The second shelter was stood up on 14 May 2026 due to the assistance of Thomas at IMS. The second Iltis shows the use of the second shelter for temporary guests. A perfect spot to place the 25 pounder when it visits the valley. In addition, the taller canvas shelter has been extended to a 10'0" height. Next step is the placement of some additional gravel to accommodate the third shelter.
