Additional photos have been added to the Blair Cup - 1989 page. Hopefully they've been placed in the correct spot! Were you there? Can you confirm that all the photos belong to that event? Check them out here.
Major Andrew Grieve was the successful high bid for the sponsorship of Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon Younghusband Linsey Crossley ED, our only Commanding Officer to have served with the North Russia Expeditionary Force. He was also wounded three times in the First World War and was the CO of the 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade when it was mobilized in 1939. A truly heroic Canadian!
The proceeds of the bids have been used to sponsor Lt-Cols Rosebrugh, Manson and Royce. Their history can be found on our Commanding Officers Page. Only 7 more sponsorships and our new Commanding Officers frame upgrades will be complete! Have you sponsored yours yet? Passing of Thelma Marjorie Gayton
Wife of the late LCol Douglas Gayton CD RCA Not long past noon, at 1330 hrs, on Day 64 in VGH - where it all started in 1924, Mum found relief: to the end her feet were twitching as though on the dance floor with Dad. She missed her target of 13 January - 15 years absent Dad. Niece Barbara Elizabeth & ‘adopted’ daughter Joanne, along with Yolanda’s daily case management, were instrumental throughout the journey. Mum was born in VGH, raised in Kerrisdale, left for 21 years as a service spouse, kept her counsel during those latter postings, and relished working with Dad at Heath, and then through the Reform Party. Mum requested no service; ashes to be with her parents in the Mausoleum; in lieu of flowers donations in support of the 15th Field Artillery Band via www.militarymusic.ca/ should you desire. End of Mission Sample sets have arrived at Bessborough armoury and they're looking mighty fine. Order yours now and we will order the next batch as soon as we receive orders for 72 of any one type. There was a flurry of activity last night as the latest two photos were being hung. LCol John Brownlee-Baker and LCol Dean Drysdale were both sponsored and a bidding war broke out on Lt-Col Crossley's photo (more to follow on this one!) In addition we have a futures option placed on the current CO's portrait.
That leaves only ten COs to go and some of those might be sponsored through the bidding war on Lt-Col Crossley's photo! order your sponsor ship NOW before their all gone! Exercise October Gunner, Fort Lewis, WA 11-14 October 1985
The Regiment deploys to Fort Lewis for Ex October Gunner, their Annual Operational Assessment - Ex Shellburst Valley. Check out the other photos here. Recognize anyone? Can you contact them and remind them about the Regimental 99th Birthday Party on 2 February 2019? Sergeant (ret'd) Tony Gee paid his $40.00 sponsorship payment a couple weeks back and has made his final choice of which CO to sponsor. He has chosen Lieutenant-Colonel Alfred Ogilvie Hood, a man that we know very little about. if any one out there has additional information to add to his biography, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share that with us.
In the meantime, There's only 13 more CO's to sponsor! That's 1/3 of the original 39! We're almost there! |
