These are the last two years in the 1930s. For many of the years there is a blank tapestry that will be filled as more information becomes available. I still have a huge quantity of photographs for these pages but first I must determine the year that they were taken and information on the people that are featured in them. In the 30s we've gone from the building of the Bessborough Armoury, the activation of the unit for the Second World War and our first fatality. I'll be filling in the blanks of the 40s and the 50s over the next couple of weeks and filling in some of the blanks as the project moves along (Check out the new youtube video in 2013 that I just put up today!) Keep tuned, send in any information that you might have and pass on the link to any former members that you might know. War is declared! The Regiment is activated and construction activity on the gun emplacements increases in tempo!
!939 was also the year of the accidental death of Bombardier Bajus. I found the details from the Court of Inquiry and they've been posted. Always, always, ensure your weapon is safe when you take it into your possession! Photos will be enhanced in the future. http://www.vancouvergunners.ca/1939.html Travelling off the grid through California the last couple of days, I was unable to post on the Regimental Birthday 2 February 2016 - Happy 96! The photos are from our 60th birthday. Does anyone have photos from any of our other birthdays?
We know so little of our past! (okay, maybe it's just me that know so little of our past!) Did you know that a former Honorary Lieutenant Colonel 15th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA (15th Field Brigade, Canadian Artillery at that time) went on to become Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia? Here's his obituary from 1957.... Obituaries William Culham Woodward On February 24 , retailer and lieutenant-governor, died in Hawaii, aged 71. He was born April 24, 1885 in Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island, Ont. He came to Vancouver with his father Charles Woodward. At 16, William worked as a $15/month Royal Bank clerk. In 1908 he joined Woodward's as bookkeeper. In World War One he served with the First Canadian Heavy Artillery, then with Occupation forces (1916-18).
