Yorke Island
BC Parks organized a very succesful Yorke Island public outreach event at Sayward BC from 1-2 February 2019. The event included partcipation from the Colonel Commandant of The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, Brigadier-General James Selbie, the President of the Vancouver Artillery Association, Leon Jensen, and a large contingent of the 85 VICS. Check out the story here. More great photos from HLCol Vic Stevenson's time in the Canadian Officers Training Corps while he attended university. Check them out here.
Great work by MBdr Switzer and Nathan Robert in tagging most of the Regiment! There's still a few more to go and there's a couple that need to be ajudicated. Is number 15 Bdr R Cavanagh or Bdr Peter Gal? Is number 20 Bdr Malcolm Sings or Bdr O Kramer? The Regimental Annual Christmas Group photo from 2018 has now been uploaded! Unfortunately my eyes are growing weak and I can't identify everyone! Give me a hand and let me know who's who in the photo. Soldiers' Christmas Dinner - December 2018

Noel Dykes has come forward and self-identified himself as the recipient of the shaving cream at the airport, although he has no memory of the incident (probably because that same trip he got his thumb cut off and crushed) His rationale for this identification is based on four pieces of evidence: the glasses; the cheesy, barely there moustache; the army issue watch strap and how the end is folded back under the tab; and the ironed seam down the arm.
A new page has now been uploaded featuring photos from Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Victor "Vic" Stevenson's early days as a university student when he enrolled in the Canadian Officers Training Cadre as an Officer Cadet. Check the photos here. Of course, whenever I start a new thread an amazing amount of other threads appear. In this case it was the realization that Vic's contribution to the Regiment deserves more than his short entry in the Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel's page. Have you got additional material that should be included on this page?
Lieutenant-Colonel William Sydney Jackson passed away peacefully on January 22, 2019 at Hollyburn House in West Vancouver. Born in Calgary June 12, 1917, Bill was taken on strength with the British Columbia Hussars in August of 1939 and was with the unit as they converted to a Searchlight Regiment. He joined Canadian Active Service Force on 10 September 1939, serving at the Narrows North Fort and other locations in BC before heading overseas and serving as the Command Post Officer for the 1st Canadian Artillery Rocket Battery. After the war, he joined the 15th Field Regiment RCA as Adjutant and worked his way through the Officer ranks being promoted Lieutenant Colonel and appointed Commanding Officer 23 December 1955. He was Past President of the Royal Canadian Artillery Association and will be remembered by the Regiment through the award of the Lieutenant-Colonel Jackson trophy to the most proficient Bombardier which is awarded annually.
