The Officers' Mess has a tradition where individuals may affix a regimental icon to one of the ceiling beams. The main caveat is that no mechanical device may be used to reach that height but you may have assistance from other members. The activity usually takes place after a mess dinner and requires the construction of a human ladder. An inventory of the items on the beam has never been done (to my knowledge) so here's the first attempt. Can you provide some insight into any of the names or items?

Prior to the 68th Depot Battery, the Vancouver Volunteer Reserve had an artillery contingent. Photos are rather rare but it does appear that they are equipped with 9 Pounder Muzzle loaders. Are these the latest guns to surface from Hastings Park? Check out the story here.

​Large Cloth Canadian Flag flying above Parade Square
Presented to CWO Rob Wishnicki by Abbotsford Fire and Rescue Dept for assisting them to conduct a full regimental Funeral for one of their fallen - Captain Larabee. It was suggested to the CO, LCol Jim Barrett that it be donated to the unit and hung on the parade square. It was scotch guarded and hung in Nov 2007.

​Warrant Officers and Sergeants' Mess Plaques - Sergeant (ret'd) Keith Laing was reviewing the Artifacts Booklet draft and noticed the unit plaques were not included. Keith paid for the 158 Battery shield and Warrant Officer (ret'd) Mike Meehan paid for the 209 Battery shield, both produced by Captain Bill Amos and both donated after the Regiment was re-organized and those Batteries were merged/re-named. He said others donated the other sub-unit plaque(s). Photographs were taken in 2004 and the plaques are now stored in the closet. We'll have to track them down and take some new photos. The updated pdf now contains a little bit of history on each of the names. There’s a total of 462 names of which 113 have no details regarding rank or service history. I’ll clean up the book a bit and print off a copy for the bar. It might be a worthwhile conversation piece.

​Major Ronald (Ron) Stanley Seymour CD
Born in Fort Frances, Ontario. September 16, 1927, passed away in North Vancouver, October 30, 1991. Predeceased by his father, Stanley Herbert (Herb). He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Nell; daughter, Rhonda, son-in-law, David Storey, granddaughters, Cherylynn and Lisa; his mother, Beatrice; brothers, Jim, Bill and Doug; also sisters, Darlene and Carolyn; and many relatives and good friends. Funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, November 5th, 1991 in St. Christopher's Anglican Church , 11th and Inglewood Ave., West Vancouver. A tribute to follow at the North Vancouver Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 118 Poppy Fund or the B.C. Heart Foundation would be appreciated. Hollyburn Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
