Some additional names were added to the group photo of the SYEP Summer 82 students. Were you part of that group? Can you identify any of the other missing names? Check out the names here. Another great weekend on Yorke Island. The outhouse was assembled, Master Gunners residence cleared out and new members were given the tour of the Island. Check out the photos and videos on this page. More to follow as I receive additional photos.
I just came across this opportunity for the Vancouver Artillery Association and it only needs $1.7 Million! If you've ever been to Kelsey Bay and walked on the wharf you will have noticed the half dozen RVs parked with a view over Johnstone Strait. That property (1.5 acres) is for sale and comes with a 20 year old house. Three bedrooms, hot tub, workshop and boat launch. Yorke Island is just across the strait. Imagine if the VAA owned the property and set it up as a "Gunner Vacation Rental". We could offer it for rent to Gunners across Canada to escape their dreary winters and discover Yorke Island. Fishing! Scuba Diving! Option 1 - The VAA buys the property! Unfortunately, it does not have $1.7 Million sitting in the bank. Option 2 - We set up some sort of consortium where we all buy shares in the "VAA Gunner Vacation Resort". We sell 170 shares in the consortium at $10,000 each. I'm in for one share, only 169 more to go. Option 3 - We find a rich benefactor willing to buy the property and either donate it to the VAA or consider it a 10 year investment and recoup their money at that time. Check out the property here and let me know if you have a better idea (or know a rich benefactor) Sergeant (ret'd) Stuart Haggerty sent in some photographs of his father in law, Master Warrant Officer James Willett who passed away last October. Unfortunately I do not have any dates of when the photos were taken. Can you identify the events that I haven't been able to find?

The 85 VICS are heading over to Yorke Island for the annual spring cleanup. The boat leaves the Kelsey Bay Dock at 0900 hours Friday 24 April and returns on Monday 27 April. You need to bring $100.00 to contribute to the water taxi cost. Of course, you also need to get yourself over to Sayward. PLUS, you need to bring enough food and water for 4 days (the canteen has yet to open on Yorke Island). The plans for the weekend is to do the final assembly of the lower outhouse, sweep away the winter debris, do some trail clearances and maybe work on the Master Gunners Residence. Interested? There might be some car pooling opportunities. Check out some of the past Yorke Island activities here. Send me an email and we'll organize something.
