The war diary for April 1941 has now been uploaded. Photo restrictions on the island escalated from a warning at the beginning of the month that no pictures were to be taken in the fort area to an order, at the end of the month, that all cameras were to be turned into RHQ and would only be returned when the individual was to go on leave. Read the other entries here. The 25 pounder dial sight has arrived! A big shout out to Brian Cormier for helping to fund this purchase. Check out the Quartermaster Stores page for an update on the funds raised.
Do you enjoy supporting local charities? Do you ever buy lottery tickets? Do you like the odds on 50/50 draws? The Rotary clubs in Langley are running a HUGE 50/50 Megadraw and we're hoping to reach a pot just under $250, 000! BC residents can buy their tickets online here: langleyrotarymegadraw.com/ Great news! The vehicle banners have been fully funded plus we've got money to pay for some gas to take the vehicles out this Sunday. Keep your fingers crossed for sunny weather and we'll send some pics of the vehicles wearing their new banners.
One of the aims of the Vancouver Gunners website is a compilation of all the names and life stories of the men and women that have served with the 15th Field Artillery Regiment and its related units. We've got all the names of the 68th Field Battery, North Russia Expeditionary Force and their military biographies. However, we're still researching where they might have gone after the war. A recent example is that of Shoesmithing Corporal Victor Joseph Lord. He originally enlisted with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, served with the 2nd Divisional Artillery Column and then volunteered with 68th Battery. His life after the war is virtually unknown, except that we did discover that he had been unknowingly declared deceased prematurely! Would you like to help us discover more of the history of the Guners that came before? Drop me a line at [email protected]
