(The Vancouver Gunners)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual General Meeting of the Members of the Vancouver Artillery Association  (the “Society”) will be held on Zoom, at 1900hrs on June 23, 2026, for the following purposes:
1.   To receive and approve the report of the Directors of the Society and the financial statements of the Society for the period ended the 31st day of December, 2025.
2.   To fix and determine the number of directors and to elect the directors for 2027
3.   To fix and determine the annual membership dues for 2027.    
4.   To ratify, confirm and approve all acts, deeds and things done by the proceedings of the directors and officers of the Society on its behalf since the last Annual General Meeting of the Society.
5.   To transact such other business as may properly come before the Meeting or any adjournment or adjournments thereof.
6.   Meeting to be held on Zoom.  Details to follow.

As we've received a few comments from BC Parks that we should look into applying to the Federal government to have Yorke Island declared a National Historic Site, I thought it would be helpful to check out ones that we happened to pass by on our journey through the Prairies. Batoche National Historic Site was not yet open for summer hours so their open hours were limited to Mon-Fri (Thu to Mon starting in July). As our stop was on a Saturday there were no employees on site and the interpretive centre was closed. The site itself was open and we wandered through the grounds. Its a very impressive site and I would recommend it to anyone interested in Canada's early history.
While at Batoche we paid our respects at the gravesite of Gunner William Phillips overlooking the North Saskatchewan River. I'm a little puzzled by the inscription as the Battle of Batoche took place 9-12 May 1885. It appears from the headstone that Gunner Phillips was killed at the Battle of Fish Creek which took place on 24 April 1885. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could provide the details of the Gunner deaths during this campaign. 

Another 61 Gunner names have been located at the Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat and will be placed on The Royal Canadian Artillery Association Lest We Forget webpage as soon as more of their details can be researched. Are there any volunteers out there willing to compile a list from the Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver? A partial list has already been started with 148 names which are recorded in the Gunner Cemeteries.

Congratulations to Captain Daniel Heydenrych on his promotion to Captain with effect from 21 Feb 2026. The grinding wheels of bureaucracy move at a slow speed....

Another $500.00 has been donated for the purchase of the 3D Scanner! That leaves only $922.88 more to go and the museum will be able to 3D scan and print artefacts that we can pass around to visitors to hold. We're almost half way there!

The Museum's M37 - 3/4 Ton SMP has taken a trip out to the country for a well-deserved rest. Actually, it needs some brake work done and it was felt that Aldergrove may be a better location to carry out that work. The exhaust fumes tend to hang around the Armoury and create a rather unhealthy atmosphere. As the M37 was moved we also discovered that it has a fuel pump problem that needs to be looked into and the foam in the seats is deteriorating. Looks like we have some work to do this summer. In the meantime, the M37 is comfortably sitting under one of our new shelters.

Another $100.00 has been raised for the 3D Scanner. That leaves only $1,422.88 left to donate in order to purchase the Einstar 2 - Wireless Handheld 3D Scanner. Remember, all donations receive a charitable tax receipt. e-transfer to [email protected]
