BC History re-enacted
The Regiment fires a salute for the Lieutenant Governor of BC as he renacts the founding of the new colony of British Columbia Gunner Wallace Reece Brunt On 20 August 1941 Gunner Wallace Brunt of the 85th Battery, 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade RCA drowned while on duty at Yorke Island. Thanks to the work of our Honorary Battery Commander, Ross Keller, in reviving the history of Gunner Brunt we made contact with a military collector in Denmark who had purchased the Memorial Cross presented to Gunner Brunt's wife. Ross has maintained contact with the collector and reached agreement that the collection was more fitting in the 15th Field Artillery Regiment Museum & Archives. They have now arrived!

Serve Canada and yourself in the Artillery The ad for the artillery trade mentions wireless, radar, surveying, driver-mechanic and teamwork. The beret was a style with a red panel at the front to designate artillery. It was not in service for very long. Check out the other information in the 1954 yearbook. Gunner Thomas Shott was featured in several newspaper articles during his lifetime. He enrolled with 68th Overseas Depot Battery in 1916 and was wounded in France that same year while serving with 3rd Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery. He was interviewed in 1917 by the Vancouver Province and sadly passed away in 1966. Lest we forget.
Royal Canadian Artillery Advertising No mention of the Reserve Force as the Canadian Armed Forces sought recruits for the Active Force required to meet the threat in Korea. Check out the other events from 1950 in this yearbook page. Warrant Officer Conrad Skuce sent me on a trail of discovery in the Chilliwack Progress archives following the journey of Gunner Harold Innes who joined 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade RCA in 1941. The newspaper clippings tell a tale of joining the unit, being hospitalized for appendicitis, transferring to the European theatre and subsequently wounded. Check out the newspaper clippings here.
The 15th Field Artillery Regiment Museum and Archives has approved the funding of library shelves in the Conference Room. This has been a project that was first approved by the Commanding Officer in 2018 and is currently about half complete.
Almost all of the books that were previously kept in the Officers' Mess are now out of boxes and have been placed on the shelves. An inventory is currently being conducted. Looking for a volunteer from the Regiment willing to monitor the signing out and return of books. Please contact president.vcrgunners@gmail.com if interested. |
