Preparation for War
The Department of National Defence finally faced the weak position of the Pacific defences. Major BCD Treatt, Royal Artillery, from the Coast Artillery School, Shoeburyness, England, was engaged to survey and report upon existing and potential coast defence sites. Following his visit in October of 1936, Major Treatt recommended a number of new sites and the improvement of some existing ones, thus adding a little flesh to the skeleton defences. The Treatt report of 1936 recommended Yorke Island as one of the sites which should be armed to cover the northern approach to Vancouver.
