Driving from Vancouver to Hope and Princeton to practice radio communication and winter driving skills.
Captain Don Friedsam on radio watch. There are times that the wrecker is required. After all, the deuce and a halfs are more than 30 years old! Mind you it looks like Corporal Robert Sutherland is enjoying the challenge of keeping the vehicles running. Good thing that we brought the parkas along, It's not like the vehicle heaters are all that efficient - oh right, they're BC Army trucks, there are no heaters... See more...

Chilliwack Range Exercise
The year that these photos were taken may be off by a year or so. We do have Lieutenant-Colonel John MacGregor in one photo so that certainly narrows down the time frame. Unfortunately the photos have been taken at a distance and many of the faces are somewhat unclear. This was also the time that some bright light at Army Headquarters decided that NCMs should all have their rank on their epaulets. Others that I see in the crowd are: Captain John Brownlee-Baker, Bombardier Niall Fraser, Bombardier Brad Smith, Gunner Ian Smith, Darren Kostinuk, Kent Wickens. See more...

Ex Limber Gunner - Shellburst Valley - Shilo, Manitoba - April 1983
Some more photos have surfaced from our adventure in Shilo, 1983. The photos are not accessioned yet into the archives of the Regimental Museum as they are still in the original black photo album donated by Major Bob Mugford. There are no markings on the photos but the rank of the personalities appears to indicate some time in the spring of 1983. There is also the possibilities of two exercises being mixed in the album. I'm always looking for confirmation from anyone that has a clearer understanding of the event! Major John Jessop is Battery Commander for this exercise with Master Warrant Officer Bill Amos the Battery Sergeant Major. See more...

Black Bear 1983
The slides are marked 1983 at the top but there's a lot of resemblance between these photos and the one in 1982. More research and discussion is definitely in order. In the meantime I'll put the photos here and the discussion can take place over a beer or two. Keep me updated if you come to a solution to the Black Bear puzzle! The detachments seem rather small. There's Sergeant Jim Jacobson, Master Bombardier Dominic DaAssuncao and Gunner Ron? Smigelski? on the first gun. See more...

Blair Cup 1983
The annual Blair Cup range shoot sponsored by the British Columbia Rifle Association .
Major John Jessop and Lieutenant-Colonel John MacGregor.
Dominic DaAssuncao, Mike Imada? and two other gunners warming up an impressive feast of IMPs (Individual Meal Packages). The Senior NCO rifle team seems to be roughing it in a motor home brought up for the weekend. The Regimental Sergeant Major Chief Warrant Officer Eric Tyldesley-Gore, Paul Stewart, Doug Johnston and Mike Meehan deep into a game of Trivial Pursuit. I'll just leave the final photograph for your imagination. That's Major John Jessop, John Carter and British Columbia Regiment Major Jack Drake relaxing in camp.

Annual Inspection - January 30 1983
Parade programs are an excellent source of information providing an exact date and a snapshot in time. In this case we have the program for the Annual Inspection that I thought would match up with the photos below. Alas, the Battery Commanders are different!

The Gunners - '47 to 67' Reunion - Artillery Sr. N.C.O.s & Officers
Peter Erwin organized the group photo. Afterwards, it's time for a drink, some talk with old friends and a tour of the Museum and the vehicle displays. The Regiment set up some vehicles on display in the Armoury and I believe that's Bombardier Darren Kostinuk supervising a small arms weapons display. The Band is in attendance and I think that's Sergeant Gord Wright taking time out from his kitchen to lead Richard Van Slyke in a duo? Afterwards there's a gathering in the officers' Mess for drinks and dinner.
