Most Proficient Detachment Commander of the Year
The BC Ex Artillery Sergeants Association provided this trophy for the Regiment to recognize their most proficient detachment commander for the year. This trophy is awarded annually by the firing battery’s leadership to the detachment commander that displayed the greatest overall proficiency throughout the year. The winner for 2011 is Master Bombardier JH Zhong. |
The Gunner Douglas Corsor Jr. Memorial Trophy
This trophy is presented to the Gunner that most exemplifies the best characteristics of being a Gunner. It was created by his close friends in the Regiment, Gunner Noel RR Dykes, Gunner Joseph C. Gauthier, Gunner R. Gerard, Gunner H. Harsch and Gunner V. Hughes after his untimely death in a vehicle accident in 1974. The award for 2011 is presented to Gunner Rubeiro. |

Bombardier Ken Keene, Bombardier Andrew Dyke and Bombardier Kyle Hodgson were tasked to OP PALACI avalanche control. The season started with a December that recorded the lowest snowpack ever and rose to just above average by March. That made for quite a bit a hectic period with considerable snow accumulation. Grey Cup
The band marched in the Grey Cup parade in downtown Vancouver in the morning. A very wet parade! This was followed by an afternoon gig at Canada Place, luckily in a spot with overhead cover from the wet weather.

20th Annual International Military Band Concert
BREMERTON, Wash. (June 26, 2011) U.S. Navy Band Northwest performs at the 20th annual International Military Band Concert at the Bremerton Performing Arts Center. U.S. Navy Band Northwest was accompanied by the Band of the 15th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery from British Columbia, The Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific, also from British Columbia, the 204th Army Reserve Band from Vancouver Washington, and the 56th Army Band from Joint Base Lewis-McChord Washington. This trophy is awarded to the most efficient member of the Sergeants’ Mess as determined by the displayed rating system. It is awarded at the Sergeants’ Mess Annual Mess Dinner for their activities in the previous year. The winner for his service in 2011 is Sergeant AM Bond. |

An article in the Globe and Mail - Mark Hume MILITARY HISTORY - Old B.C. fort was braced for Japanese invasion that never came Published November 8, 2011 Thanks to a group of volunteers – many of whom have never met – and a group of veterans who never forgot, a long-abandoned military base on the West Coast has slowly started to re-emerge from the forest. During the Second World War, Yorke Island, off the northeast shoulder of Vancouver Island, was home to more than 200 men, who manned six-inch guns and swept the dark waters with searchlights waiting for a Japanese invasion that never came. ....Check out the remainder of the article in the attached pdf. |

Obituaries
The Honorable Charles Conrad Locke, QC
September 24, 1917 - October 1, 2011 Born in Winnipeg, grandson of Corbet Locke, county court judge in Manitoba, and son of Charles Holland Locke, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. Served as an Artillery officer in the European Theatre in World War II, attaining the rank of Captain. His legal career spanned over six decades as a distinguished litigator at Ladner Downs, arbitrator, and justice of both the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of British Columbia. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elinor Murphy, mother of his children, and is survived by his wife, Margaret Joyce, two sisters, Alice Macaulay and Elizabeth Morin, six children and eleven grandchildren. He lived in Vancouver from the age of 11 and was a longstanding member of both the Vancouver Club and the Shaughnessy Golf Club, where he golfed avidly into his nineties. Many happy summers were spent on his beloved Pasley Island. A devout Catholic, he died peacefully at the age of 94. Mass of Christian burial, Thursday, October 6 at 4 p.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1430 West 38th Ave, Vancouver. Rev. Paul Smith OFM celebrant. Flowers gratefully declined in favour of donations to the Union Gospel Mission, 601 East Hastings St., Vancouver V6A 1J7 or [email protected].
