Sniping Gun Trophy
This trophy is awarded annually to the most proficient gun detachment firing in the sniping gun role or in another role determined by the regular force support staff. It was originally created and presented by: Captain DB Harrison, Master Warrant Officer Fred H Rossi, Sergeant JYD Thiebert and Master Bombardier C McGinley. This year’s winner was 15B gun detachment commanded by Master Bombardier JH Zhong. |
Most Proficient Detachment Commander of the Year
The BC Ex Artillery Sergeants Association provided this trophy for the Regiment to recognize their most proficient detachment commander for the year. This trophy is awarded annually by the firing battery’s leadership to the detachment commander that displayed the greatest overall proficiency throughout the year. The winner for 2012 is Master Bombardier JCK Wong. |

The Gunner Douglas Corsor Jr. Memorial Trophy
This trophy is presented to the Gunner that most exemplifies the best characteristics of being a Gunner. It was created by his close friends in the Regiment, Gunner Noel RR Dykes, Gunner Joseph C. Gauthier, Gunner R. Gerard, Gunner H. Harsch and Gunner V. Hughes after his untimely death in a vehicle accident in 1974. The award for 2012 is presented to Gunner M Soltys. |

Remembrance Day 2012
The weather was terrific for the annual event to commemorate those that had given their lives in the defence of Canada. As in previous years, the salute is often a time for previous members to visit the guns and the messes back at the Bessborough Armoury. Chief Warrant Officer (ret) Brian Cormier, Warrant Officer Mike Meehan, Sergeant Colin Parkinson, Sergeant Davidson, Master Bombardier Ernie Kovacs and Bombardier Doug Brown were a few that dropped by this year. |

A Walk to Remember
On Remembrance Day, the Band of the 15th Field Artillery Regiment performed at the unveiling ceremony of A Walk to Remember, organized by the Langley Youth for the Fallen, the Rotary Club of Langley and the Township of Langley. Many people were in attendance to honour all those Canadians who have been killed in Afghanistan, remembered with the planting of a tree at this site for each person. See more...

The Band played at the Heroes Hockey Challenge Charity Gala Dinner on February 1, 2012. Participants dined with serving members of the Canadian Forces and NHL stars at each table. The Gala Dinner event was held at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and included celebrity appearances, VIPs from the Canadian Forces, celebrity MC and guest speakers, and special entertainment, which included the Band of the 15th Field Artillery Regiment RCA!

Rotary Club of Richmond Gala Dinner
On April 15, the Rotary Club of Richmond celebrated 50 years of friendship and community service in the City of Richmond with a Gala Dinner at the River Rock Casino. The Bands of the 15th Field Artillery Regiment and The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada supported the celebration with an evening of musical entertainment.
Join the Richmond Rotarians as they recognize a half century of good work in the community and raise funds for the coming years. Money raised through ticket sales and silent auction assists the Rotary Club of Richmond in their activities in the community.

He was accompanied by his Regimental sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Kevin Walker and Lieutenant George Lenis. In the crowd, there was Captain (ret) Art Gee and providing escort to one of the Debutantes, Second Lieutenant John Girardi.

Transport Office Renovations
The transport office in the compound was renovated with new insulation and gyproc. This area has been home to the Armoury caretaker, a 68 Battery canteen and a band room during the last 50 years.

Yorke Island gunner warrants a fitting memorial
The Yorke Island Battery was established in 1938 as part of Canada’s coastal defences. It was on isolated posting far from the theatre of war and was decommissioned in 1946. Royal Canadian Artillery Gunner Wallace Brunt died on duty in 1941 here on the West Coast far from any Second World War battlefield and a local war historian is determined that his death will be more than a distant footnote in history. Lieutenant David Francis Bruce
May 16, 1915 – November 20, 2012 – It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved David Bruce at 97 years. David was predeceased by his daughter Colleen (Fred), grandson Paul; his siblings, George (Lillian) and Alice (Harold). He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years , Marney; daughter Brenna (David), grandchildren Karl (Lara), Jeffrey, Shannon (Dan), Marnie and Bruce; great-grandchildren Anya and Ryder. David lived all his life in Burnaby, except during WWII. By war’s end, he was a lieutenant, Royal Canadian Artillery. After the war, he supervised shipping and receiving for Cemco Electrical which later became Federal Pioneer. He loved to garden, fish, read, and work with wood. He was a long-time member of the Burnaby Fish and Game Club. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, December 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Gordon Presbyterian Church, 7457 Edmonds, in Burnaby.

Major David Michael Mills Goldie CD, QC
Goldie, David Michael Mills, The Honourable, Major (ret) CD, QC, passed away on 21 March 2012 in Vancouver BC, He was in his 88th year. Major Goldie served with 15th Field Artillery Regiment for many years. He was a founding governor of the Law Foundation of British Columbia, a valued participant in the Cambridge Lectures of The Canadian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies as well as a member of the Canada- U.S. Legal Exchange and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Michael was a scholar, sailor, soldier and a gentleman who had the respect and admiration of his peers and colleagues. See more... |
Bernard (Whistling Bernie) Merle Smith
February 28, 1923 - November 14, 2012 Bernie passed away on November 14, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bernie's life was well spent serving his country and his community, loving his family and embracing people of all walks of life. He was a member of the 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade RCA during World War II. Afterwards he joined the Vancouver Police Department and it can be said that he truly loved every minute of that career. Lieutenant Kenneth Anton-Rea West
March 1953 – November 2012 Following a long battle with cancer and in the company of his family, Kenneth Anton-Rea West of North Vancouver peacefully passed away at the North Shore Hospice on November 15th, 2012, at the age of 59. He immigrated to Canada with wife Barbara in 1977 and worked as a journalist at newspapers in Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. Kenneth was a Lieutenant in 15th Field Artillery Regiment RCA from 1988 to 1992. See more... |
