Gunner Valentine William Henry Hansen MM

Gunner Valentine William Henry Hansen MM is taken on strength in 15 Field Regiment RCA on 21 September 1950. He was a Gunner with 3 Canadian Field Regiment RCA in 1944 and awarded the Military Medal while serving as the wireless operator for the Forward Observation Officer attached to the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in Italy on the 19/20 October 1944.

Parades and Ceremonies

On 5 June 1950, unit personnel attended a Royal Salute commemorating the Birthday of His Majesty King George VI.

On 1 July 1950, unit personnel attended a Dominion Day Salute.

On 4 August 1950, unit personnel attended a Royal Salute commemorating the Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

On 10 August 1950, unit personnel attended a 19 Gun Salute in honour of the Australian Prime Minister.

On 15 August 1950, unit personnel attended a Royal Salute for the birth of a child to Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth.

On 11 December 1950, unit personnel attended a Royal Salute commemorating the Anniversary of the Assession to the throne of His Majesty the King.

In the news
The Vancouver Sun compiles a list of Reserve unit activities that includes 15th Field Regiment at the Blair Range (this would be in North Vancouver), dry deployments in the University area and "firing at Steveston with live explosives and smoke shells". Training also included Officers doing compass and director training at Locarno Beach while the basic training battery was busy with foot, arm and rifle drill.

Wainwright Summer Camp
The Province reports on the regiment's plans to travel to Wainwright, AB on 9 June. They're looking for an additonal 50 men to take with them. If you sign up now (19 May 1950) you can join them in Wainwright and stay for one, two or three weeks as desired!
