Judge William Rodgers was appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the 15th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA.
From 1988 to 2008 he was a Civilian Instructor with 103 Thunderbird Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets in North Vancouver where he coached the Squadron’s Range Team and assisted with the Advanced Survival Training Program.

Canadian Forces' Decoration (CD)
The Canadian Forces' Decoration is awarded to officers and Non-Commissioned Members of the Canadian Forces who have completed twelve years of service. The decoration is awarded to all ranks, who have a good record of conduct. The decoration is awarded to the regular forces, reserve forces, officers of the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC), Canadian Rangers and holders of honorary appointments in the CF. Most Proficient Detachment Commander of the Year
The BC Ex Artillery Sergeants Association provided this trophy for the Regiment to recognize their most proficient detachment commander for the year. This trophy is awarded annually by the firing battery’s leadership to the detachment commander that displayed the greatest overall proficiency throughout the year. The winner for 2010 is Sergeant G Kurtagich. |
The Gunner Douglas Corsor Jr. Memorial Trophy
This trophy is presented to the Gunner that most exemplifies the best characteristics of being a Gunner. It was created by his close friends in the Regiment, Gunner Noel RR Dykes, Gunner Joseph C. Gauthier, Gunner R. Gerard, Gunner H. Harsch and Gunner V. Hughes after his untimely death in a vehicle accident in 1974. The award for 2010 is presented to Gunner TM Murray. |

Master Bombardier Zhong is presented with the trophy for most proficient Bombardier of the year for 2008 by the Regimental Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Rob Wishnicki at the Annual Mess Dinner for the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess.

The Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Veuger arranged support from the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club to provide an opportunity for recently returned Afghanistan augmentees to take an enjoyable cruise from Kitsilano to the Wigwam Inn at the north end of Indian Arm. The Inn has an interesting history and is now owned by the RVYC as one of its out stations. See more...

The parade goes through the chain of command, arriving last with the Commanding Officer James Barrett. The Honorary Colonel, John Brownlee-Baker assists the Commanding Officer with presentations including a Canadian Forces Decoration and certificates.See more...

The Regiment provided a gun detachment to start the Ride to Live event, a fundraiser for prostate cancer awareness and research. Captain Don Lamb, Lieutenant George Lenis, Second Lieutenant Conway Hui, Sergeant Wayne Lysholm, Bombardier William Martinez, Bombardier Lam, Bombardier Huang, Gunner Andy Law and others were all in attendance for this first of many rides. As a new volunteer padre, I wanted to be with my regiment as they went on exercise. The catch here was that the exercise took place over the Easter weekend. I have been associated with the regiment over the last two years being involved with various phases of regimental life such as classroom training, regimental events and throughout the pre-deployment, deployment and reintegration process for each rotation since being asked to become the volunteer padre. This trophy is awarded to the most efficient member of the Sergeants’ Mess as determined by the displayed rating system. It is awarded at the Warrant Officers' and Sergeants’ Mess Annual Mess Dinner for their activities in the previous year. The winner for his service in 2010 is Sergeant WK Lysholm. |

Exploring Some of Vancouver's World War II Relics
Most Vancouverites are aware of the two "bunkers" at Tower Beach and the "Siwash Bunker" in Stanley Park. The Siwash bunker is a WW I relic, originally housing a 4" gun, and as such can be properly referred to as a "bunker." The towers at Tower Beach, however, built for WW II, never were gun emplacements and were never manned, and as such are not really "bunkers" at all. More on that after the cut. See more...

What do they do when they retire? Lieutenant-Colonel John MacGregor (1981-1983) is stil flying. "Two retired L19 pilots LCol (Ret'd) John MacGregor RCA and LCol (Ret'd) John Dicker RC Sigs. "The photo was taken in Fredericksburg TX. John and I flew down from BC in his L-19 to attend the 60th anniversary of the L-19 Birddog in 2010. John Mac appears to be saying: “I told you we were lost!” ha! ha!" |

Pat Brownlee-Baker
Pat died on November 2nd after a long and valiant fight with cancer. Deeply loved and fondly remembered by husband John, sister Jacqueline, brother-in-law Robert, nieces Clair and Sarah. As well as many relatives and friends in Canada, the UK, France and Japan.

Captain Charles Harold Clerkson, MC
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad and Granddad. Harold was born in Swanson, Saskatchewan and spent most of his youth with his 11 siblings in Broadview, Saskatchewan. He joined the military in 1941 and went overseas with the 15th Field Artillery Regiment. He never wanted to discuss his fighting experiences, even when he was awarded the Military Cross for bravery. Major Robert Nicholson Keen
March 17, 1915 - July 10, 2010 After a lengthy period of ill health, Bob passed away peacefully at Shorncliffe where he had resided since March 2010. Bob was predeceased by his twin brother (Pat) and his wife (Irene). He is survived by his daughter, Margaret (Lee) of Kamloops; grandson, Lindsey (Ingrid) and great grandchildren, Angus and Caela of Port Moody. Bob is also survived by his sister, Thelma Gayton of Vancouver. See more .... |

Heinz was born in Germany in 1926, and settled in Vancouver in 1955. He died at Lions Gate Hospital due to complications of cancer (T-cell Lymphoma), on July 8, 2010. He is loved and missed by his wife, Maria, sons Ralph (Margarete), Ed and Ron; grandchildren Jocelyn and Jason; brother Max; and sister Thea. A small memorial service is planned for Thursday, July 15th at 2pm at Vancouver Memorial Services and Crematorium at 5505 Fraser St. (at 40th Ave).

Rob Saguri was born in Iserlohn Germany on May 5,1965, where his Dad served in the Canadian forces with NATO. He died on July 18, 2010 in Vancouver from a recurring brain tumour. He realized his lifelong dream and was working as an RCMP officer with INSET, at the time of his death.
Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Vic Stevenson, CD
Born November 25, 1928, promoted to glory May 30, 2010. LCol Stevenson, CD started his military career with the Seaforth Cadets and served with them from 1944-1948. He joined the U.B.C. Contingent COTC from 1948-1950 and was commissioned LT Sept 1950. During this time LCol Stevenson spent his summers continuing his military training in both anti-aircraft and coastal artillery warfare. See more... |
