Canadian Forces' Decoration (CD)
The Canadian Forces' Decoration is awarded to officers and Non-Commissioned Members of the Canadian Forces who have completed twelve years of service. The decoration is awarded to all ranks, who have a good record of conduct. The decoration is awarded to the regular forces, reserve forces, officers of the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC), Canadian Rangers and holders of honorary appointments in the CF. Honorary Colonel William Culham Woodward ED awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration on 10 December 1956.

Honorary Colonel Stands Down
Honorary Colonel William Culham Woodward ED receives a departure gift from the Regiment as he departs after serving as honorary for 25 years. The Minister announced his new position as Colonel at Large of the Militia. He also received a the Canadian Forces Decoration at the same dinner. Honorary Colonel (Brig ret) Aeneas E. McBean Bell-Irving OBE ED was appointed as the new Honorary Colonel. See more...

9 O'Clock Gun
The 9 o'clock cannon was taken out of service for a significant repair. Fortunately the Regiment was able to replace this iconic Vancouver landmark. Gun Position Officer was Lieutenant Leslie Strike with Sergeant Major Lloyd Hunter as Troop Sergeant Major. See more...

Wainwright - 29 June to 8 July
It's a long way from Vancouver to Wainwright by train for the annual summer camp. A rest stop in Revelstoke on 30 June to give the soldiers a chance to stretch their legs is always appreciated. Meanwhile, Major Keen lives in the dark waiting for the trip to be over. Either that, or it's a bad setting on the camera....
2 July in Wainwright, with a beautiful rainbow for Second Lieutenant Al Graham to wake up to before heading off to the O Group. Were you there? Can you name some of the players? The news articles highlight a few of the achievements of the unit during the camp.

Banff Camp
The slides were labelled Lake Minnewanka 28 Jul 56 and Banff Cadet Camp Officers' Quarters (and Rec Hall) 25 Jul 56. However the identity of the boat crew and the reason for their sentence to such a rough life is not known. Any info that you might have would be most appreciated.

Former Commanding Officer Colonel William Allen Townsley testified at a Coroner’s inquest into the deaths of four workers at the Mount Lolo project. Colonel Townsley was the engineer in charge of the top secret defence construction project as reported in the Lethbridge Herald 13 July 1956 edition. |
