Chinese Canadian Military Museum Fundraiser
The Chinese Canadian Military Museum commemorated the 70 year milestone of the the end of the Second World War by hosting a special gala on October 24, 2015. About 360 people attending and they honoured many surviving veterans of that war.
The occasion was made all the more special by the presence of LGen (Ret’d) the Hon. Roméo Dallaire, who provided the audience with a moving keynote speech. As a former Gunner LGen Dallaire made time for photos with his fellow Gunners including a former Battery Sergeant Major of 15th Field Artillery Regiment, Master Warrant Officer George Chow. George was born in Victoria in 1921, enlisted in the Army in 1940 and took basic training at Seaforth Armoury in Vancouver. He then joined the 16th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery in Windsor, Ontario and from there was assigned to a base at Colchester, England. It was near there that his all-Canadian crew shot down the first German plane on English soil.
After his discharge in 1945, he signed up with the 15th Field Artillery Regiment in 1953 and retired 12 years later as a Battery Sergeant Major.
