Vancouver Coastal Defences revisited
The defence of the Vancouver Harbour was quite extensive with Forts located at Point Grey, Stanley Park and Narrows North. The requirement to illuminate targets should an attack take place at night necessitated the construction of searchlight emplacements throughout the area. The Point Atkinson emplacement is still in place below the lighthouse along with the concrete foundation for the generator.
The Stanley Park Fort was demolished soon after the war ended with only the present day Teahouse left standing at Brockton Point.
The Point Grey Battery has the No 1 gun emplacement still intact as a reminder of the Fort. The No 2 gun emplacement is buried under the museum and the No 3 gun emplacement is overgrown.
