Coronation Ball 1972
The Annual Coronation Ball was a BC Militia District formal event open to all Warrant Officers and Sergeants. A different unit was tasked to be the host each year and was responsible for the planning and the organization of the event. The photos show Warrant Officer Yelland sitting at the head table with the gavel which would indicate that he was the PMC for the dinner and that 15th Field Artillery Regiment RCA was the host unit. Unfortunately the photos are taken off of a sample negative print and the photos are not he clearest. There is also not a date on any of the photos and therefore the year may be a bit off.Not sure why the photos started with a shot from the roof of the Armoury. This photo and the next three with members mingling may have been from a previous Mess event, Either that or it's an opportunity for a reception before heading off to the Coronation Ball.
At the Ball venue the Regiment set up two guns at the entrance way. Of course a group shot is a great way to highlight who attended. If only the quality of the photo was better! In the rear rank we have 1,2,3,4,5, Dave Strebe, Bud Taylor, Warrant Officer Allen, 9,10,11, 12, Ray Guttridge, 14, Heinz Winter, 16, Brian Cormier, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24
In the front rank: George Wood, Kelly Wood, 27, 28, 29, 30, Eric Tyldesley-Gore, Sylvia Tyldesley-Gore, 33, Sylvia Yelland, Peter Erwin, May Hamilton, Al Yelland, 38, Sergeant Ray Wilson, Jim Hamilton, Virginia Friedsam, Don Friedsam.
The bar staff comprised of staff from the Officers' Mess and volunteers from the Regiment Bombardier Gary Palmatary, 2,3, Gunner Colin Norris and Gunner Greg James. They were all supervised by Don Maskovich, shown here with the caterers and Bombardier James.
Busy kitchen when you're feeding this size of a dinner! Even busier than the bar ticket sales desk with Corporal Rene Bischof collecting the cash.

The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Gary Bailey enjoys a refreshment with the Regimental Sergeant Major Brian Cormier in the hospitality room prior to dinner. In addition, we have Warrant officer Al Yelland joining Master Warrant Officer Eric and Sylvia Tyldesley-Gore for a drink with a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Making their way to the table we have Chief Warrant Officer Brian Cormier with his wife Pat. Sergeant Don Friedsam and his wife Virginia.
Warrant Officer George Wood and his wife Kelly. Sergeant Dave Strebe with Major Bill Wickett in the background.

The head table at their places. Grace.
Posing for the inevitable head table photo. The PMC of the dinner, Warrant Officer Al Yelland has brought his gavel from the Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess in Bessborough. He needs to establish order for the usual speeches.
Speeches! Obviously not an Artillery Dining Night!
Toasts! Sylvia and Eric Tyldesley-Gore, 3, Warrant Officer Allen, Kelly and George Wood, Chief Warrant Officer (ret) Ray Guttridge, Sergeant Don Friedsam. Sergeant Dave Strebe, Sergeant Ray Wilson.

The dinner sorts itself out for th Grand March led by Chief Warrant Officer Peterson.
The head table leads off the Grand March followed by the rest of the crew including Major Bill Wickett, Warrant Officer George Wood.
Warrant Officer Allen, Sergeant Don Friedsam and their ladies strut their stuff in the Grand March with Warrant officer Bud Taylor coming up behind.
The Grand March gets everybody off their feet and onto the dance floor.
Even Chief Warrant Officer (ret) Ray Guttridge is on the floor as well as Warrant Officer Bud Taylor. Good form!
Warrant Officer Allen appears to have the style!
