Gunner Wallace Reece Brunt
On the 20th August 1941, K.73619 Gunner Wallace Reece Brunt was drowned in the waters of Sunderland Channel near Yorke Island. It was while he was participating in a work party fetching sand from Hardwicke Island in Sunderland Channel that Brunt was dragged overboard when he got caught in a tow line to a sinking rowboat. Despite the efforts of his fellow soldiers he drowned. His body was not recovered. Gunner Brunt had joined the Canadian Active Service Force on 16 December 1940. He had served in the Non-Permanent Active Militia (NPAM) as a member of The Duke of Connaught’s Regiment from November 1932 until March 1933. In the civilian world, he had been seaman, a cannery worker and a steward. He was married to Anne Brunt on 8 October 1938 and they had two daughters. The Memorial Cross is currently held in a collection in Denmark. |
Sergeant James Stevenson Richardson
On 30 August 1943, K.25029 Sergeant James Stevenson Richardson succumbed to military tuberculosis constrictive pericarditis at the Shaughnessy Military Hospital. He was taken on strength with 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade, RCA as a Gunner in 1940, posted to 58th Heavy Battery in 1940, appointed Lance Bombardier with pay in 1940, qualified clerk and reposted to headquarters in 1940. He was an Acting Bombardier without pay in 1942, Lance Bombardier with pay in 1942, confirmed in rank of Bombardier in 1942 and was to be Lance Sergeant with pay later in 1942. Sergeant Richardson was admitted to Shaughnessy Military Hospital in February 1943. He was single and left behind a mother and father. |
