Lieutenant George Walter Atherton
Peacefully in Vancouver on June 30 1982, aged 71 years, George Walter Atherton. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; 2 sons, George and David; daughter, Betty; 4 grandchildren, Bruce Scott, Adrienne, and Kenneth; 2 sisters, Mrs. Amy Slingar and Mrs. Helen Wilson of Honolulu. Funeral service to be held on Monday, July 5 at 2 p.m. at MT. PLEASANT – SIMMONS AND MCBRIDE CHAPEL, 11th Ave. at Kingsway, Vancouver. Rev. David Hayward officiating. Mr. Atherton was the past president of Vancouver Insurance Agents Association, B.C. Insurance Association, Vancouver Richmond Association for the Mentally Retarded, B.C. Association for the Mentally Retarded, the Arbutus Club, Cambie-Mt. Pleasant Uptown Kiwanis Association, and the Active Club, and was a member of the Apex Club, Masons’ Evergreen Lodge, Gizeh Temple Shrine, Trinity Baptist Church, and the Canadian Club. He was a supporter of numerous charitable societies and gave freely of his time and resources to further the work of these organizations. Lt. Col. Bushell was a Lieutenant with the 5th Canadian Siege Battery, Canadian Garrison Artillery in the First World War. 15th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA perpetuates this battery. Lest we forget.

Bombardier Clayton Foster Elderkin
C.A., B. Comm. McGill. Former Inspector-General of Banks, Associate Deputy Minister of Finance, 1945-1967. Governor, Carleton University, Past President of Quebec Institute of Chartered Accountants and of Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, President of Ontario Division of Red Cross 1969, Chairman of Division Blood Donor Clinic 1960 to 1964, Vice President and President of Ottawa Branch of Red Cross and member of various Masonic Orders. Clayton Elderkin, suddenly on Tuesday, January 19, 1982, in his 87th year; beloved husband of Jean Elizabeth Stewart and dear father of Clayton William Elderkin. Grandfather of Suzanne Elizabeth, Kristine Dorothy and Charles Alexander William. Predeceased by his sister Mrs. Nell Black, Moose Jaw, Sask., and Mrs. Anita Lyons, Vancouver, B.C. Survived by his nephew Alan G. Black of Nepean and also survived by other nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond road (between Island Park Drive and Woodroffe Avenue) on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. by Reverend Canon K. Cowan. Cremation to follow. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Christ Church Memorial Fund, Bells Corner. Bombardier Elderkin enrolled with the 68th Overseas Depot Field Battery, Canadian Field Artillery as a Gunner on 22 Feb 1916. He proceeded to France with the 1st Canadian Division Ammunition Column and later transferred to the 9th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery. |

Lieutenant-Colonel Allan Morton McGavin CD
Ppassed away on 8 December 1982. He was a Second Lieutenant in 31st Heavy Battery 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade RCA CASF in 1939, Lieutenant in 1940, Captain in 1941. he was with the 85th Battery 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade RCA NPAM in 1941 before being appointed Battery Commander 31st Battery in May 1941. In 1952 he was a Lieutenant-Colonel and and appointed Commanding Officer of 43rd Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RCA until 1955. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration on 24 March 1952. After his retirement he was appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel from 1962 to 1967 and Honorary Colonel from 1967 to 1972. On his civilian side he was appointed Chancellor of UBC from 1969 to 1972. His awards include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration. |

Flight Cadet Geoffrey Frank Mott
Passed away on January 4, 1982, age 86 years, of Vancouver. Predeceased by his first wife Lilly Elizabet. He is survived by his second wife, Elsie Nora; 2 daughters, Mrs. Thelma V. Good, Vancouver; Mrs. Gwendolyn E Johnson, Tsawwassen; 1 son, Geoffrey H., Vancouver; his granddaughter, Mrs. Virginia E. Spicer, Vancouver; also 11 other grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and his twin sister, Mrs. Kathleen Pringle, of Vernon, B.C. The deceased served overseas in the First World War. Rev. Ken Wotherspoon will conduct the funeral service from Canadian Memorial Church, 15th Ave. at Burrard St., on Wednesday, January 6, at 2:30 p.m. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Cancer Society, 955 West Broadway, would be appreciated. Mount Pleasant Chapel in charge of arrangements. Flight Cadet Mott enlisted with 68th Overseas Depot Battery in Vancouver as a Gunner on 21 February 1916. He was promoted to Bombardier prior to transferring to the Royal Air Force and he served in France with 1st and 4th Canadian Division Ammunition Columns. |
