Captain David Hubert Bain Mapleton CD 1920-1992
I saw three ships come sailing April 19th marks the ten-year anniversary of the passing of David H. Mapleton, dearly loved husband to Bettie, father of David Jr. and Marjorie, and uncle of Anne and Jill. He was a proud Canadian and served with the 15th Field Regiment to ensure, as much as possible, that there would be no more war. He raised his son and daughter in an environment powered by love, guided by compassion, and protected by the bonds of family, yet encouraged them to grow and experience life in their own ways. Fishing was his favourite pastime, but it was also his best excuse for spending countless hours with his son, and latterly his grandson. Many students and executives of the Credit Management profession alike will remember and appreciate David's tenacity in promoting excellence in the field; exampled by his leadership and evidenced in his texts and educational materials. David possessed a limitless repertoire of anecdotes, an infectious "let's have a small party" enjoyment of friends and family. With patience and understanding he always found time for others as well as his own interests-to research and publish the family history, build models of ships and clocks, write books, craft countless home and garden improvements, travel and stay informed on current affairs. David was surely the most Indomitable of the Breed and we trust now he is enjoying a well-deserved rest happily fishing on the banks of the Bulkley River and in the mists of Hi Hium{Lake Fishing Lodge in Cache Creek}
