Oktoberfest 1971
There's a lot of work to do in order to get Bessborough Armoury ready fro the big party! Speakers to be hung from the rafters. Sergeant Ted Johnson works on some of the many signs to be hung. Gunner Brian Brooks works with Dave Strebe and Gunner Doug Loney stapling the paper tablecloths
The crowds certainly came out for the event! I'm not sure what the final count was, nor do I know how much beer was bought! But there were HUNDREDS of people all rockin' to the Oktoberfest Beat!
I'm sure we kept the whole neighbourhood awake to the wee hours of the morning. I hope they all bought tickets and joined in the fun and excitement!
And we can't forget the dancing!

And we can't forget the dancing!
There was traditional Bavarian music!
Accordions!
The band came out to show everyone how to dance the proper Bavarian Way!

Of course there were a lot of the members of the Regiment that were also in attendance. It wasn't just all the neighbours. The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Barry Clemons was there sporting a nice Tyrolean hat with his artillery ascot and discussing the event with the Second in Command, Major Gary Bailey. He also met up with Major Ron Abbott.
The Regimental Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Ray Guttridge also attended, dancing up a storm with a young lady. There was also Major Bill Wickett showing fine form with his wife Shirley.
Major Ron Abbott smiling for the camera while Eric Tyldesley-Gore hangs with some of the 209 Battery gang, Second Lieutenant Basaraba and Bombardier Doug Brown.
Master Warrant Officer Ruth Thompson sports a fine addition to her new CF greens uniform while Bud Taylor seems set for the night!
Bombardier Bill Amos seems to have had an enjoyable night with several young ladies and Bombardier Mike Meehan.
But there were some of us that had to work. Bombardier Gary Palmatary is doing a fine job while another member is all set to adjourn for the night in the Junior Ranks Club.
Of course there's always a fine mess to clean up in the morning. Where are those voluntolds.....err volunteers.
