Royal Canadian Artillery Association AGM 12 -14 Oct
The President of the Vancouver Artillery Association has spent three days reestablishing our ties with the national Royal Canadian Artillery Association. On Thursday I sat in as an observer at the Executive committee and then participated in a wonderful meet and greet at the home of the 30th Field Artillery Regiment RCA in Ottawa. Old faces with new stories!
Friday was the RCA Board with Senior members of the Regimental family briefing us on where the Regiment fits into the Canadian Armed Forces today. Major General Mike Roulleau and his SOFSCOM team gave an excellent presentation on the Iraq situation. Details best left to the Mess at another time!
We also looked at the current state of the RCA role in joint targeting, the future GBAD in the RCA and discussed millennials in today's military. Saturday was focused on the RCAA and the expectations of our membership among other subjects. There was some excellent discussion and the topic will be open for further discussion throughout the year. Your VAA president may be asking for your comments!
The RCAA AGM also has time for the social side of the house. Not all the work that went on over the 2 1/2 days was focused on powerpoint presentations. There were many, many sidebar discussions and a formal dinner to engage us on our Regimental links - We are One Regiment, One Association - Coast to Coast!
That said, there was room for more members from the West. Is there interest in setting up a fundraiser for next years event with a target of $10,000.00 to cover the costs for a member from each of the Junior Ranks, the Warrant Officers' & Sergeant's Mess and the Officers' Mess to attend?
