Remembrance Day - 2020
Message from the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Nick Watts, CD
Each year, on November 11th, at 11:00 AM, we pause to remember those who have given their lives in the service of our country, so that we may live in freedom, peace and security.
This year, we commemorated the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the end of the Battle of the Atlantic.
This was also the year where we had to remember differently. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to gather by the thousands at Victory Square, as we would normally do. Instead, Vancouverites were asked to “remember in place” in their homes, watching a livestream broadcast of a safe and socially-distanced #RemembranceDay service.
Although this years ceremony was small in size, it was large in sprit. We remain grateful to all those who have served, and continue to serve.
“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
Laurence Binyon, "For the Fallen”
...
