St Barbara's Day Dinner
Gifts are exchanged and speeches are made. As customary with the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, this takes place before dinner. A great tradition that ensures that speeches do not drag out the time sitting at the dining table.
After dinner we have the playing of Regimental Marches. With a twist. You might get selected to conduct the band playing your regimental march. I trust that you've learned that skill somewhere in your Junior Officer's training career....
After the musical interlude the guests are provided the opportunity of firing off their own artillery salute with the miniature cannons.
On this occasion, the Junior Officers have come up with an entertaining skit. It appears to focus on the art of being a Forward Observation Officer...
For the physically fit, there's the stretcher race to burn off some of those calories from dinner.
And somewhere in the evening the decision has been made to add another artifact to the Officers' Mess beam. Is yours still hanging up there? Do you need to come back next Saint Barbara's Day and add a new memento?
