St. Barbara's Special Guest Night
The Officer's Mess annual St Barbara's Special Guest Night was another great success with about 80 people sitting down for a wonderful prime rib dinner. There was great conversation during the sherry, plus a couple of non-speeches (everyone knows that we don't have speeches at artillery dinners). There were a few antics at the table - apparently the PMC was missing his gavel for a short period and there appears to have been a few missing chairs during the dinner.
The band played regimental march pasts even though there seems to have been a few missing from the list and a few that should have been excluded from the list. Question - If the Artillery Standing Orders state, "However, Canadian Gunners hosting or in attendance at an artillery mess shall not stand when any march or selections, including the "Royal Artillery Slow March" are played. It is incorrect for artillery officers to stand for their affiliated infantry or armour unit march past." Does that mean that they should remain seated for their Brigade march past?
The miniature guns were fired off at the conclusion of dinner and one must wonder what will happen once the new tower to the east is completed?
