St Barbara's Dinner
The Officers' Mess is always the centre of decorum for the military at Black Tie events. Prior to dinner, speeches are given and gifts are presented. Invited guests, such as the Area Commander Brigadier General Hamm, are recognized and there is usually a sense of frivolity as shown by Major Barrie Hamilton.
Lieutenant CI Young makes a presentation to our colleagues from south of the border and Lieutenant-Colonel Stuart McDonald provides a gift to Captain Red Harrison.
Recent trophies are highlighted and often served with the appropriate punch. The District Commander, Colonel William (Bill) Wickett samples the latest brew.
After dinner the decorum seems to slip somewhat. Maybe it was the ingredients of the brew, maybe it was too much wine and port at the dinner. Someone suggests a game of mess rugby and the potential damage assessment to mess kit suggests that a more relaxed dress is appropriate.
