The Gunners of Canada - Volume III
The following has been received by the Committee preparing the latest Volume of the Gunners of Canada
"Photographs Required"
1960 – To present
History of the Gunners of Canada Vol 3 urgently needs relevant photographs about units, equipment, memorable events including ceremonial, and unusual tasks or activities. To date only 2 units 5eRALC and 6eRAC have provided material. Some individuals have also contributed. 1 RCHA can be covered by persons in contact but most are pre-1980.
Please submit up to 20 suitable photographs per unit or individual with detail of activity/event, location and date, description of equipment, source (who took the photograph). Pictures should be a minimum of .300 dpi where possible. We assume that all submissions may be used - no copyright limitations, etc.
The design of the book will be firmed up by September 2016. Material received after that might not be usable.

Colonel Jensen suggests:
Rather than searching through our files for the best 20 photos, maybe we should step back and ask ourselves what were the 20 (or ten?) most newsworthy occasions that have taken place since 1960 and then start looking for the best photo(s) that identifies with each of those periods. Something different than units in the rest of Canada.
I would suggest something along the lines of:
1. The salute for the Britannia;
2. The salute for a visiting warship;
3. Canada Day salute in Stanley Park;
4. An exercise in Ft Lewis;
5. An exercise in Yakima;
6. The Freedom of the City parade;
7. Our Op tasked days;
8. Our FAT and Limber at Smokey Smith funeral;
9. Our salute for Clinton and the Russian President on the same day;
10. The best Regimental Band photo that we can find;
11. Our 10/90 days
12. The Regimental Oktoberfest (Biggest party in the Armoury!)
13. Abbotsford Air Show
14. Support to GATES
15. The Regimental band firing American 105s in Ft Lewis
16. Ex Cougar Salvo
17. Sgt's Mess Gonging
18. Winter Warfare preparation - Vancouver style
19. United Nations Emergency Force Middle East/United Nations Truce Supervision Organization
20. United Nations Protection Force
21. United Nations Force in Cyprus
22. NATO Stabilization Force
23. International Security Assistance Force

18. Winter Warfare preparation - Vancouver style
There's just something unique about the Wet (err-West) Coast that just doesn't always align with the Canadian image of snow and ice. Preparation for winter conditions is often difficult to accomplish so the unit sometimes substitutes sand for snow. 1981WWFmoogk-01 Dave Anderson posing with his sandshoes 1.42 Mb 1981WWFmoogk-02 - The troops receiving instruction from Sergeant Mike Meehan 5.27 Mb |
