Annual Training - Wainwright
It's a long way from Vancouver to Wainwright by train for the annual summer camp. A rest stop in Revelstoke on 30 June to give the soldiers a chance to stretch their legs is always appreciated. Meanwhile, Major Keen lives in the dark waiting for the trip to be over. Either that, or it's a bad setting on the camera....
2 July in Wainwright, with a beautiful rainbow for Second Lieutenant Al Graham to wake up to before heading off to the O Group. Were you there? Can you name some of the players?
5 July and some photos of the Artillery camp and the morning parade.
We do have the TL (Troop Leader) and TSM (Troop Sergeant Majors) wearing their armbands but still unable to recognize any of the faces. We do have a good shot of Major Keen during the morning wash followed by one of the Commanding Officer Lieutenant-Colonel William (Bill) Jackson.
The kitchen staff are all set to serve their hearty breakfast in the morning.
Lieutenant Al Graham poses in front of the Regiment Headquarters tent.
Gun drill takes place in the gun lines for the 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. Unsure at this time if this is a case of 2RCHA providing the equipment and supervision while the Militia Artillery units provide the personnel for training. The gun tractor has the 2RCHA tac sign FB (Fox Battery, B Troop)
The Troop Command Post is also from 2RCHA with the tac sign GC (Golf Battery, Charlie Troop?)

Up with the Forward Observation Officer we have another 3/4 Ton flying the 2RCHA pennant with the tac sign GD which is somewhat unclear as to its original use.
Lieutenant Red Gorham is tasked with making the coffee for the detachment. The 15th Field Regiment RCA is not the only unit in Wainwright at this time. An unknown unit is present with 155mm towed howitzers.
There's also a Sexton 25 pounder in the exercise area and the anti-aircraft artillery has deployed 90mm Medium Anti-Aircraft guns.
A troop of 4 90mm Anti-Aircraft guns with an M33 Radar is well camouflaged.
Second Lieutenant Al Graham grabs some cold water from the bowser. A nice shot of the Commanding Officer's notes from the O Group.
Second Lieutenant Mike Ellis and Lieutenant Les Strike pose by the new 105mm howitzers.
The Air OP is also deployed to Wainwright for the training exercise with their Austers and L19s.

Another group of 12 photos from Major Thomas Eckford focuses on the Gun line with the 25 Pounder. The group shot at the tent lines includes: Lieutenant Vic Stevenson, Lieutenant Les Strike, 3, 4, Lieutenant Barrie Clemons, 6, 7, 8, Second Lieutenant Al Graham, 10, 11.
