Tucked in amidst our Sarcee 1934 photos were three that featured an unidentified unit with unidentified vehicles. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
Photos from the summer camp at Camp Hughes have been placed in the 1932 Yearbook. These were donated by Brigadier Theo Dumoulin. Unfortunately, there are some that appear to be duplicates of those placed in the Camp Hughes 1934 page that were donated by Major Ted Edmonds. Can you figure out which date is correct?
A few more pictures were added to the 1935 Sarcee summer camp collection, including the first photo of the regiment motorized on a field exercise! We have photos from 1928 where the unit appears to have trialed the concept on their own but this is the first photo I've found of them actually using trucks on a live fire exercise.
A new index page has been started website to assist in finding specific events. The first entry in the index is Change of Regimental Sergeant's Major in keeping with this week's upcoming event. I was quite surprised to find that the website only has photos from four of the many change of RSM parades that have been held. Did I miss some? Do you have some at home that you can send me copies of? Check out the new index page here. Let me know what you think of it. And please take some pictures of the parade on Wednesday!
Starting Gun
Bombardier Colin Parkinson and Master Bombardier Keith Laing fire the starting gun for the 4th Annual Delta Half Marathon. Cloverdale Rodeo
The Regimental recruiting team is at the Cloverdale Rodeo on the long weekend, 19-21 May with a C3 howitzer New pictures have been added to the 1933 yearbook from the summer camp at Sarcee. Don't forget to check out the video that's on that page as well. Take on the role of an historian and let me know if there's any interesting features of the camp that would make a story.
Salute
We have a photo of a salute with Bombardier Doug Johnston as detachment commander. We're not sure of the date but seeing as how Doug was promoted Bombardier on 1 April 1976 and promoted Master Bombardier 1 December 1976, it safe to assume that the salute took place in 1976. If that's Private Barry Cotter as his #3 the date is narrowed down to when Barry was enrolled on 24 March 1976 and when he was qualified Gunner on 3 August 1976. The final bit of information would be that the salute is taking place on the north side of Stanley Park in order to greet a visiting naval ship. Wonder which one? BC Hussars
Prior to being re-roled as a searchlight unit, the BC Hussars were a reconnaissance unit. Originally with horses, the unit became motorized by renting MGs (Morris Garages) such as the ones pictured here parked in front of Bessborough Armoury. These photos may actually have been taken in 1938. Ferguson Point Plaque
The plaque at Ferguson Point in Stanley Park is unveiled on 16 October 1966 by Major General Albert Bruce Matthews, CBE DSO ED. Warrant Officer Class II Ray Guttridge, 2,3,4,5,6, Brigadier Theo Dumoulin, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, Major General Albert Bruce Matthews, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, RSM Warrant Officer Class I Pat Smith. Were you there? Can you identify some more of the people that were there? |
