Lest we forget - Athies Communal Grave Extension Second Lieutenant William J Jephson was the Brigade Sergeant Major of 15th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery as it was formed in Western Canada for World War I. The Brigade was subsequently broken up in Great Britain with the members dispatched as reinforcements to the existing Canadian Field Artillery units. Sergeant Major Jephson received his commission as a Second Lieutenant with C Battery 175th Brigade Royal Field Artillery before meeting his fate on 26 September 1918. He will not be forgotten. Several former members of 15th (Vancouver) Coast Regiment RCA and the 1st Anti-Aircraft Regiment RCA volunteered for overseas service. They were subsequently assigned to the 3rd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment and assigned to the Dieppe operation. Gunner Joseph Camile Dessureault is buried at the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery while Bombardier James Charters and Bombardier George Allen Northgraves were presumed killed in action and not identified after the battle. Your Association President stopped at the Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery in Souchez Pas de Calais, France to pay respect to former members of our perpetuated 5th Siege Battery, Canadian Siege Artillery. Lieutenant James Kay was a former Battery Sergeant Major who was subsequently commissioned and Gunner Roland Francis Turner who was killed by counter battery fire.
