How can I not set up a page for 1935 when I come across a great photo of the Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess. Great Decor! And the for 1937 I have a photo of the members of the Sergeants' Mess at a Mess Dinner ..... with a date .....and with names!
We have photos of a gunner from several points in his career. Possibly you can help identify the who, what, when, where! A visit from the Army Commander? I've thrown in an additional photo of the gentleman being led in by the sentry who stopped him at the edge of the position. Who's the number 1? What was the name of the exercise? When was it? and Where did it take place? Same gunner is in this photo. But it doesn't look like he's the number 1! Who is the number 1? What was the name of the exercise? When was it? and Where did it take place? What's with the high ranking number 2? Again we have the same photogenic gunner. But this time he's got one hook! A qualified Gunner! That's Major Bob Foulis leading the service in the North Fort Lewis. I can recognize WO? Brian Harmon, Bdr Shane Culver, Gnr Colin Parkinson and MWO Bill Amos. Recognize anyone else? When did this take place? Appear to be Gunner Parkinson in this photo as well. Chilliwack exercise including grenades? The first two appear to go together. Is the third photo from the same ex?
Apparently Gunners spend time on the internet on the first Monday after Christmas! That's 45 unique visitors with 408 page views. WOW! Now, if you all had one picture (or a story!) that you could scan and send to me ...... or pass the coordinates of the website to one fellow gunner....
These photos go back about 45 years and show the 15th Field Artillery Regiment on what appears to be a Remembrance Day parade in Vancouver. Can this be true? Did we deploy both a salute troop and a marching contingent that year? Are there others out there that can provide some additional information? I'm sure that's me in the photo as a gunner which would make 1971 accurate. Battle Dress, puttees, lanyards, artillery forage caps and regimental brass. Although it appears that Bdr Dave Strebe didn't have his regimental brass belt with him that day! To his left you can see Gnr Bill Barlow, Gnr Greg James and Lt Gary Woloski. Marching behind him is Gnr Craig Stewart and Gnr Leon Jensen. Any other recognizable faces? Same parade. To Bdr Strebe's left we have Sgt? Don Friedsam peaking through the ranks. The officers ranks are hard to see but it appears that we have Bob Mugford, Preston, Martin Casey, Bill Wickett, Capt? Stu McDonald, Art Gee, Vic Stevenson and Steve Burridge. At the rear of the file we have Bdr Mike Meehan and Bdr Keith Laing.
Updated the 1919 yearbook with a transcript of the meeting held on December 16th, 1919 regarding the formation of an Artillery Brigade in the City of Vancouver.

As we approach the end of the year I extend seasonal greetings to members of the Royal United Services Institute Vancouver and wish you all a healthy and prosperous new year. During the past year we collaborated on a major pre-election panel on Foreign and Defence Policy and approved a new RUSI badge, to be unveiled early in the new year. The coming year promises to be an exciting one as RUSI Vancouver hosts the prestigious Strategic Studies Conference at the Main Branch of the Vancouver Public Library on April 8 and 9. The conference, together with the restoration of the Burrard Bridge Memorial Braziers, will be the primary initiatives to be undertaken by RUSI Vancouver in 2016. Please keep checking the RUSI Vancouver website at: www.rusivancouver.ca A Merry Christmas to all and a very Happy New Year! |
