Captain Robert Spring passed away 30 June 2021 at the age of 85. Bob was a member of 15th Field Artillery Regiment from 1959 until 1962 and from 1964 until 1967. He was a long time Associate Member of the Mess, a Director and an active volunteer with the Regimental Museum Society and a member of the Vancouver Artillery Association. An obituary will be sent out when available. A memorial service will probably be held in the Officers Mess in the fall – depending on COVID restrictions at the time. See more... Major Thomas is Officer Commanding. There is a smoker held in the Mess Hall and the following movies played during the month – Hit the Ice, Submarine Patrol, Forty Thousand Horsemen, I Wake Up Screaming, Sabotage Squad, Swamp Water, Two Tickets to London, Sing Your Blues Away, Caught in the Draft. A Court of Inquiry for the loss of a water hose and a Board of Officers looked into the situation with garbage cans on the island. There was a notice regarding damage to the canteen pool table, a Y.M.C.A. travelling art exhibition and the Spotlight Review concert. Life seems not too bad on Yorke in the summer of '43. The Regiment fired their annual 21 gun salute but were, unfortunately, restricted to firing from Deadman's Island with a limit to the amount of personnel available to attend.
The Vancouver Artillery Association assisted with the Aldergrove Canada Day parade by providing the ILTIS and additional drivers for the Western Museum of the Armed Forces.
