Newspaper clippings have been added to the 1963 yearbook page. There's reports on the many salutes fired that year - including one for the United Red Feather - Red Cross campaign (It helps if the campaign chairman is an Honorary Colonel for an artillery regiment). There's also stories from Glenemma Range, Albert Head and a recruiting drive. Check out all the 1963 stories here.
Point Grey Fort Mini Clean Up Part II
We were back at it on Sunday, 3 October from 1000 until 1430 for another round of maintenance. Stu McDonald, Peter Moogk, Robert Chown and Leon Jensen used up some WD-40 and got all the Ammunition Recess doors swinging! (Except for one that is welded shut). We also discovered that one of our members has an affinity for locks and we managed to open up the Gun Stores Room. Newspapers in the romm are dated 1999. Has it really been that long? Apologies for the quality of the photos. Check out the other photos here... The Gunners looked great exercising their Freedom of the City of Vancouver! Too bad their wasn't a larger crowd on hand but we'll make up for it once this COVID goes ahead. It seems that there may have only been two of us in attendance who were on parade for the original granting of the honour in 1977. Did you know that the City of Vancouver considers that, "The Freedom of the City is the highest award given by the City of Vancouver. The City grants the award only in exceptional cases to individuals and groups of the highest merit". Congratulations! Check out the other photos here...
Additional newspaper articles have been added to the 1961 yearbook. Check out the variety of salutes that were fired that year (there was even one for the Duke of Edinburgh's birthday!) the exercise at Albert Head that needed coordination with the Swiftsure Sail Race plus a substantial recruiting campaign. Would these ads work today? Check out all the stories in the 1961 yearbook.
