COVID has certainly put a damper on our ability to organize the new library set up in the Conference Room. However, we are making some progress. The attached excel file provides a listing of the first tranche of books that came over from the Officers' Mess. They're all on the shelves and available to lend out. We have a book set up in the room to note down any books that you borrow. The lack of access provides difficulty in actually accessing the books, but, if you were to email me your choice I would try and access them the next time I'm in the area and we could then make some arrangement for the delivery to you. president.vcrgunners@gmail.com If you are a current serving member of the Regiment, check with your chain of command and they can get access to the room with keys from the Orderly Room. More books from the Cam Cathcart collection and HLCol Foster donation will be uploaded in the very near future!
Here's the plan for this year's Remembrance Day Ceremony in Vancouver. 1100 Hrs - The Regiment will be firing a 21 Gun Salute from HMCS Discovery. Only serving members will be allowed on the island but you may be able to watch from Hallelujah Point or from the Sea Wall by the Harbour Air Seaplane Station. Please be safe. Wear a mask. Maintain a safe distance. Mess attendance afterwards is limited to serving members only. 1100 Hrs - There will be a small guard formed up at the Cenotaph with no space allocated for onlookers. The ceremony is intended to be broadcast for home viewing. Your president, Leon and Captain Rob Wishnicki will be layng a wreath on behalf of the Canadian Army Veterans. After the ceremony at the Cenotaph, I plan to go for lunch at Moose's Down Under Bar and Grill, 830 W Pender Street. Let me know if you want to join us! (Or if you have a better suggestion for lunch!) If anyone is staying out in the Valley, I might suggest an 11:00 service at the Afghanistan Memorial at the Derek Doubleday Arbouretum. There may also be an event happening there and at 1500 hrs. It also appears that there are plans in the works for a gathering at the Aldergrove Legion. Remember - Stay safe. Wear a mask. Maintain a safe distance. Exercises in Albert Head, Wainwright and Fort Lewis. The re-roling of the 5th Harbour Defence Battery in Victoria and the 120th Battery in Prince Rupert. Officers' Mess formals and a tale of Gallipoli. Check out the news in 1956 and the seperate pages for the 15th Field Regiment and the 43rd Medium Anti-Aircraft Regiment.
