Driver Alfred Calder Bell has been added to our list of fallen. Driver Bell joined the 62nd Battery, 15th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery in Victoria, BC. He was subsequently transferred to 3rd Brigade and was killed in action on 2 September 1918. His Circumstance of Casualty record reads:
Killed in Action During Military operations in the vicinity of DURY, the Battery to which this soldier belonged was being heavily shelled by the enemy when a shell burst close by killing him almost instantly. His remains were not recovered and his name is inscribed on the ramparts of the Vimy Memorial with the names of over 11,000 Canadian soldiers who were posted as 'missing, presumed dead' in France. |
