Captain Alan Ronald Townsley has been added to our list of fallen. Captain Townsley enrolled in the 58th Heavy Battery as a Gunner and spent some time with the 85th Battery on Yorke Island. He was commissioned and volunteered for overseas service with the 3rd and 5th Medium Regiments RCA before transferring to the 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment RCA. While in England, he married Helen Ruth Plumb, a Red Cross volunteer from North Vancouver. It was during the operations to secure the crossing of the Rhine that he died of the wounds received in action (burned with petrol) on 29 March 1945.
Captain Townsley was the son of a former Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel William Allen Townsley OBE, MC
