There's two reasons that updates have not been as frequent lately. The first reason is that I'm on the road travelling through the south west USA. The Grand Canyon and Death Valley have been two of the stops in our little camper van. Beautiful scenery! if they're not on your bucket list; they should be! Internet connectivity and research time have been severely curtailed.
The second reason is my status as a poorly skilled web designer. The concept for each of the yearbooks was to provide a pdf copy that one and all could download as they wished and a web page for those that simply wanted to read on-line. I was planning to keep the yearbooks as if they were written during that year. For example, 1930 would have a list of all the Commanding Officers up to that year, 1970 would have a list of Commanding Officers up to that year, etc. This was all wonderful until one realizes that there are 94 pdf documents and 94 webpages with Lt Col Coghlan listed as the first Commanding Officer. If I was to have an error on the spelling of his name I would have 188 corrections to make! That's not all! I just recently installed a search function on each page. If you search for Coghlan you get inundated with search results but most of them have to do with the lists that I've created that are providing you the same information over and over again. The same applies to a google search outside of the website. Coghlan comes up quite often, but the hits are mostly from my own lists. In order to solve this problem I have decided to create one chapter of lists; lists of Commanding Officers, lists of Regimental Sergeants Major, lists of Honoraries, lists of awards, lists of trophies, etc, etc. Now I just have to go back through 94 yearbooks and erase all those extra lists.....Might take a while, we're off to Beverly Hills this morning.... |
