Major Piercy was the OC. There was a large intake of 3rd Searchlight Battery personnel and Lions’ Gate Riding and Polo Club were thanked for their donations. First there was an electric light generator oil leakage and then a complete electrical breakdown. There were issues with the Chevrolet truck, clicking gears on the 4.7" guns and all the Ross rifles Mark IIIs were replaced with Mark IIs which were not satisfactory. Check out the complete diaries here.
The war diary for June 1941 has now been uploaded. Major Piercy is the OC and is attempting to establish a better source of water at Hardwicke Island. A bring to round was fired on the USS Cavanaugh (Can anyone find information on the USS Cavanaugh? I drew a blank). There is mention of the 15 cwt truck on the island, was it a CMP?. Apparently Kelsey Bay had some latrine issues. Check out the stories here.
Western Command is back for another trip to Yorke Island with the 85VICS. Check out the other pictures here. Have you got some additional photos of the event that I could post? email@example.com
Another $25.00 has gone into our vehicle pot! We did get a small rebate from ICBC but we have the insurance for the 3/4Ton M37 and the FAT coming due at the beginning of July. Care to chip in a few dollars?
Big shout out to Bombardier (Retired) Eric Halstead who has completed reviewing the B's in our nominal roll for missing birthdates and service numbers. Great job, Eric!
Would you like to join Eric's team? We need to go through the Yorke Island War diaries and ensure all the Gunners have made it into our nominal roll. It's a great job for a rainy day and gets you right into the history of the Regiment! Send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Photos have been added to the Yorke Island collection featuring three events from 2010. Western Command provided great assistance with the construction of the latrine and major cleanup throughout the island. Ross Keller gave a tour to Catherine Gilbert, the author of "Yorke Island and the Uncertain War" and hosted a 70th Anniversary gathering. Check out the photos here:
